Mirta Alvarez, born in Chascomús, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a distinguished concert guitarist, arranger, composer, and singer. She graduated as a Superior Guitar Teacher from the Conservatory of Chascomús and further specialized in Tango and Folklore Guitar at the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda. Under the guidance of maestros like Aníbal Arias and Kelo Palacios, she honed her skills and developed a unique artistic voice. Mirta also took advanced courses with renowned musicians such as Eduardo Isaac and Pablo Marquez.
Currently, Mirta teaches Tango Guitar, Tango Appreciation, and Tango History at the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda. She is celebrated in Argentine popular music for her own arrangements, original works, and adaptations, seamlessly blending music and poetry. Her career as a concert performer has taken her to prestigious festivals and venues around the world, including the Festival de Guitarras del Mundo in Buenos Aires, Semana de la Guitarra de Petrer in Spain, and the Festival Internacional de Tango de Málaga. In 2018, she published a book of her tango arrangements for guitar and regularly contributes to Guitare Classique Magazine. She has also been part of orchestral groups led by Rodolfo Mederos and Kelo Palacios.
