With SPIRITO, Marina Rebeka, one of the leading sopranos of our time, mesmerizes and enchants with her distinctive voice and heartfelt performances of a selection of handpicked arias of the dramatic Bel Canto repertoire. Based on the artist’s research and renderings of original manuscripts, complemented by Jader Bignamini’s nuanced conducting of the Teatro Massimo di Palermo Orchestra and Chorus, SPIRITO shines thrilling new light on the most emotionally extreme moments of timeless masterpieces by Bellini, Donizetti, and Spontini.
For Marina Rebeka, creating SPIRITO was intensely personal. “I was 13 years old when I heard opera for the first time. It was Bellini’s Norma,” relates the artist. “This seemingly small event catalyzed the driving force to become an opera singer and to perform this music—music that has a beating heart and a spirit. For this album, I wanted to take the composer’s initial vision and bring it back to life.”
The works exquisitely preserved in this Bubble convey uncanny realism to these stunning compositions. “It was extraordinary for me to hear for the first time my voice in the Bubble recording,” enthuses Marina Rebeka.
