Description
Michele Spotti is the Musical Director of the Opéra de Marseille and its Philharmonic Orchestra. He graduated first in violin and subsequently in orchestral conducting at the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan under the guidance of Daniele Agiman. He continued his studies at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva, at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival Academy with Neeme Järvi and Gennady Rozhdestvensky, and in Italy with Gianandrea Noseda, Gianluigi Gelmetti, and Daniele Gatti.
At the age of twenty, Michele Spotti made his conducting debut with Le nozze di Figaro at Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto. In 2016, he was selected by Alberto Zedda as assistant conductor for Rossini’s Ermione at the Opéra de Lyon.
His recent and forthcoming engagements include return appearances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with Rigoletto and at Palau de les Arts in Valencia with a new production of the diptych L’heure espagnole / Gianni Schicchi. He has also made notable debuts at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with Norma, the Opéra national de Paris with Turandot, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples with Simon Boccanegra, and the Arena di Verona with Turandot, which opened the 101st edition of the festival. Further engagements include Die Zauberflöte at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Il viaggio a Reims at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, La fille du régiment at the Vienna State Opera, La bohème at the Semperoper Dresden, and concerts at Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and Juan Diego Flórez.
He opened the 18th edition of MITO SettembreMusica conducting Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and led the Orchestra Haydn on a four-concert tour in Italy with pianist Beatrice Rana. His artistic collaborations include directors such as Robert Wilson, Damiano Michieletto, Barrie Kosky, Laurent Pelly, and Pier Luigi Pizzi, and institutions including the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Komische Oper Berlin, the State Operas of Hannover and Stuttgart, the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Theater Basel, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Wexford Opera Festival, the Rossini Opera Festival, and the Festival della Valle d’Itria.
The DVD of Offenbach’s Barbe-bleue, recorded at the Opéra de Lyon and released by Opus Arte, was awarded the Diapason d’Or. In addition to his role as Musical Director of the Orchestra Filarmonica di Benevento, Michele Spotti maintains an active international concert schedule, collaborating with ensembles such as the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, and the Orchestra of Teatro Regio Torino.
