Considered one of the best singers of her generation, Karine Deshayes has been awarded ‘Singer of the Year’ three times at the Victoires de la Musique. She began her career with the Lyon Opera and quickly gained invitations from major opera houses worldwide. At the Paris Opera, she excelled in Mozart roles (Cherubino, Dorabella, Donna Elvira), Rossini roles (Angelina, Rosina, Elena), and other significant parts such as Poppea, Romeo, Charlotte, Carmen, and Urbain.
Her performances outside France have been equally impressive, gracing stages like the Salzburg Festival under Riccardo Muti, the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, and the Liceu in Barcelona. She has also performed at the Teatro Real in Madrid, San Francisco Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she sang roles including Siébel in Faust, Isolier in Le Comte Ory, and Nicklausse/La Muse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann under James Levine.
Recently, Deshayes has continued to shine in roles such as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at the Chorégies d’Orange, Charlotte in Werther at the Toulouse Théâtre du Capitole, and Adalgisa in Norma at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. She has also had notable successes in Rossini’s Elisabetta Regina d’Inghilterra at the Pesaro Festival and Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena at the Zurich Opera House. Her diverse repertoire and powerful performances have solidified her reputation as a leading mezzo-soprano in the opera world.
