Mercedes Gancedo

Born in Banfield, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mercedes Gancedo made her professional debut at 18 as Despina in Così fan tutte at Teatro Roma. Trained under renowned mentors such as Jaume Aragall, Teresa Berganza, and Montserrat Caballé, she excels in both opera and Lied. Gancedo has been recognized with awards such as the “Young Artistic Promise of International Character” by the Argentine Critics Association and scholarships from the Mozarteum Foundation and ESMUC, where she earned a Master’s in Lied. She is also a laureate of prestigious competitions, including the “Competizione dell’Opera” in Dresden and the “Francisco Viñas Competition” in Barcelona.

Her repertoire includes roles like Elle (La voix humaine), Oberto (Alcina), and Papagena (The Magic Flute), performed at major venues such as Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real de Madrid, and Festival Castell de Peralada, collaborating with conductors like Gustavo Dudamel and Marc Minkowski. In addition to opera, Gancedo is an accomplished Lied and symphonic performer, appearing at the Schubertíada de Vilabertran, Oxford Lieder Festival, and Palau de la Música Catalana. Her debut album, Cooking America!, was released in 2017 with pianist Beatriz Miralles.
