Anda Eglite

Anda Eglīte – head of the kokle and guitar class of J. Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, a musician, playing kokle (Latvian plucked string instrument).

Currently actively performing in Latvia and abroad as a solo musician, as well as a member of several chamber orchestras, among which the most notable being the contemporary classical music ensemble Altera Veritas. While performing with this group, Anda had collaborated with numerous distinguished Latvian artists and sympfony orchestras, and earned the highest award in Latvian music – the Great Music Award (2003), as well as Yearly Award in Culture from the national daily newspaper Diena (2004), Annual Folk Music Award (2007), and Baltais Zvirbulis Cultural Award of the Year (2004, 2014).

Along with musical performance, Anda is actively involved with creative life of Latvian kokle musician’s comunity.  She is the author and the artistic director of the kokle music winter festival „ Kokle Sounds in Winter Sparkle”, the head conductor of the multiple Riga’s regional kokle musicians united ensemble, at the many music festivals and concerts as well as General Latvian Song Festival.

In addition to her creative activities, Anda splits her time between teaching kokle music at the J. Vitola Latvian Music Academy, as well as at the Joseph Medina Riga 1st Music School, the Art and Music School of the City of Olaine, and serving as an Artistic Director of the kokle ensemble Cantata, which she also founded.
